Help the victims of the Sumatra, Indonesia, earthquake


On September 30, 2009, a major earthquake with a moment magnitude of 7.6 hit the west-northwest of Padang, Sumatra, 220 kilometres (140 mi) southwest of Pekanbaru.

The death-toll estimates range from a few hundred to over 1300, with thousands more trapped in collapsed buildings and under landslides. Government reports confirmed 715 deaths in West Sumatra province.

Death toll rises to 7 in E China subway tunnel collapse

Two more bodies of missing workers were found on Monday afternoon, bringing the death toll in Saturday’s collapse at a subway construction site in east China’s Zhejiang Province to seven.

Rescuers extricated another body earlier in the day, and the death toll was expected to rise as the search for 14 other missing workers continues.

The incident happened at 3:20 p.m. when a 75-m section of a tunnel under construction collapsed in Xiaoshan District, trapping about 50 workers
